This is a simple app to allow you to look at a pump design parameters, by doing the following tasks:
1) Enter pump and head--App will calculate pump efficiency (within ranges, see notes below), and horsepower
2) Review a diagram, entering upstream pressure, downstream pressure, and various pressure drops in a system--App will determine TDH and NPSH required for the pump.
3) A liquid only dP/100 ft. calculator (see more details on my app called "dP100") is included for you to estimate line sizes required into and out of pump, as well as allowing you to estimate line pressure drops so as to get the pump TDH accurately.
Notes: Pump efficiency is a correlation published in an article several years ago, and is only good at this time for flow between 100 and 1000 gpm, and for TDH between 50 and 300 ft of head. Ultimately, this can be a narrow range. I have found the correlation extends fairly well to lower flowrates, but doesnt do well in much higher flows or very high TDH applications. The app detects this when the efficiency calclated is "out of realistic range" and sets the efficiency to ~75% artificially instead of using the correlation.
See the screen shots for examples of what the pics look like, I find it useful personally (of course!), but seriously, I check pump calculations by engineers a lot and have found this to be a good tool for checking high level results.
Guidelines are included in the apps "Notes" tab for sizing inlet and outlet lines. Variables are also explained in the app notes pages.
